AviStraint is a method of avian restraint that is safe and humane . Used for the for temporary restraint of a bird to allow safe examination, grooming, and other procedures commonly performed on any bird, pet or not.  It can also be used on post-anesthesia avian patients to prevent injurious wing flapping during recovery.

It is recommended that owners do not restrain their own birds. Pet birds can become distrustful of owners when handled this way.  Some birds will forgive this type of handling, others will not.  Good parrot-owner relationships are totally dependent on trust. Pet bird owners can purchase AviStraints and take them along for their visits to their veterinarian and groomer.

The AviStrain is absolutely not intended for long-term adornment or restraint.  It should not be used for tethering or flight prevention, or protection against or to deter feather damaging behaviors and other self-mutilation.
